The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) is responsible for developing and coordinating U.S. international trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and overseeing negotiations with other countries. The head of USTR is the U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Ron Kirk, is a Cabinet member who serves as the president’s principal trade advisor, negotiator, and spokesperson on trade issues
 
At this roundtable Deputy Assistant USTR, Mr. Lilienfeld, who leads the USTR's South Asia focus will provide a detailed overview on a number of important topics related to US-India bilateral trade, including:
 
The history and recent developments in official US-India bilateral trade and investment dialogues. The composition of such dialogues
Overview of the US-India Trade Policy Forum (TPF) co-chaired by the US Trade Representative and India's Minister of Commerce, the five "Focus Groups" that report to the TPF - Services, Investment, Agriculture, Tariff/Non-Tariff Barriers, and Intellectual Property Rights.
 
An overview of the US-India Private Sector Advisory Group or PSAG.  
 
He will also outline plans for Indian Commerce Minister, Anand Sharma's visit to Washington to be hosted by USTR Ambassador Kirk.  In addition to a bilateral meeting, the two are expected to sign a Framework agreement on cooperation in trade and investment and co-host the first meeting of the PSAG.
 
 
Mr. Lilienfeld is keen to get Bay Area companies' perspectives on their interests with respect to India, including concerns and opportunities, and ideas for initiatives or areas of focus.
